RwandAir has become the first African airline that has vaccinated all its staff against COVID-19, as Africa seeks to position itself as one of the safest on the continent. The airline began its vaccination rollout programme earlier this month targeting all staff and crew who received their first shot. Non-airline staff at Kigali International Airport, the airline’s hub, have also been vaccinated to ensure a safe and secure environment for all passengers.

The latest drive comes right after RwandAir announced that it will be the first carrier in Africa to start trialing the IATA Travel Pass in April to enable the safe resumption of international travel. Yvonne Manzi Makolo, Chief Executive, RwandAir, said in a statement that Rwanda’s rapid roll-out of the first consignment of vaccines that arrived in the country prioritised all frontline workers, including RwandAir’s staff and crew.

She mentioned that the vaccination programme has been designed to ensure that the airline provides a safe and secure environment for travellers, both in the air and on the ground. She said that the carrier has carefully considered every customer touchpoint at Kigali International Airport and on board the aircraft, as the world resumes travelling in the post-COVID era. She shared that the airline is looking forward to welcome customers back and is giving utmost priority to the health and safety of customers and staff and have been working hard to restore customers’ confidence to fly.
