According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Alyson Hoegg, Santa Ana winds returned on Sunday and bouts of moderately strong wind gusts are anticipated through at least Tuesday. It threatens to worsen the already deadly firestorm early this week.

The strongest winds are expected on Monday night through Tuesday morning.

Winds can move through wind-prone passes and canyons at speeds 50-60 mph. They can accelerate to 60-70 mph in the mountains.

There can be another round of locally gusty Santa Ana winds on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Camp Fire is one of the deadliest wildfire in California’s history, and gusts of 30-40 mph can persist around the Camp Fire through Monday morning.

The strong winds, minimal moisture in the air and tremendously dry ground from months of drought will create an environment for wildfires to ignite and expand rapidly.

According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rathbun the fires in Southern California could spread from east to west toward the coast, potentially impacting areas from Oxnard to Malibu.

Residents are put on high alert as they may be required to evacuate homes with their emergency bags having important documents, medicine and other necessary items.

Ongoing blazes, such as the Camp, Hill and Woolsey fires, can exhibit extreme fire behavior in such windy conditions.

The wind may cause tree and power line damage, while the smoke may prove to be hazardous to health.

No wet weather is expected across California through the week.

The smoke will head to the sea from the Camp Fire covering the Sacramento Valley and part of the Northern California coast. Hazy and smoky conditions have been reported in Oakland and the Golden 1 Center arena in Sacramento.

No fire-quenching rainfall is on the horizon in the near future.
