Santa Cruz County officials informed on Wednesday that the temporary closure of parks and beaches has expired. They also mentioned that the spaces would open to the public once again starting April 16.

Irrespective of the reopening order, the state and county social distancing measures and stay-at-home orders continue to remain in effect. The city officials said in a statement that while outdoor exercise is considered an essential activity, it should be done close to home. Residents have been advised to use outdoor city facilities within their neighborhoods. Traveling to a destination for exercise or similar other activities are still considered to be a non-essential form of travel.

All parks, beaches, open spaces, multi-use trails, and the Santa Cruz Wharf are now open including the restrooms of all parks and Beach Street. However, some restrictions are still attached to the opening.

All basketball courts, DeLaveaga Golf Course, DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course, athletic fields, skate parks, archery, lawn bowling, and playgrounds will remain closed. Beach volleyball courts on Main Beach are also subjected to remain closed. Park facilities including swimming pools will not open immediately.

In addition, West Cliff parking lots, East Cliff parking areas, and parking along Swanton Drive near Natural Bridges State Beach continue to be prohibited. The Depot Park parking lot and Sanctuary Exploration Center parking lot have also been ordered for closure as of now. Even the Santa Cruz Wharf restrooms have been asked to remain closed although the main venue has opened.

Officials have mentioned that the current situation would be monitored and actions would be taken according to the situations. They have also informed that additional closures may be initiated if the shelter-in-place orders are not followed.
