Santa Monica – a top travel destination in California

With its world-class beaches, culinary delights and beautiful weather, those who know Santa Monica are aware of the wonderful reasons why the city is a top travel destination in California.

Tourism is vital to Santa Monica’s thriving economy. In 2018 alone, travel and tourism in Santa Monica supported almost 12,600 local jobs, generating $1.96 billion in visitor spending.

Overseas visitors are some of the most lucrative ones for the city, spending an average of about $4,200 per person, per trip. Last year, more than half of visitors to Santa Monica were from abroad. They tend to stay longer and use public transportation; in fact, 82% of overnight visitors do not use a car to get around Santa Monica upon their arrival.

Luckily, California’s officials are aware of how important international visitors are for the state’s economy.
