The Mainpuri district located in UP is home to the biggest population of Sarus cranes in India. This place will soon witness a Sarus circuit as a key eco-tourism project.
The circuit will have more than a dozen wetlands and bird sanctuary. It’s all ready and would be opened for public once the COVID restrictions are lifted, said a state government official. To quote the CDO, Mainpuri, Eesha Priya, “It’s an eco-tourism project and, at the same time, a step towards conservation branding. It will help conserve Sarus and give eco-tourists a reason to visit Mainpuri.”
In September 2020, the first phase of the three-round Sarus census had counted over 2,866 Sarus in Mainpuri.
Two blocks of Mainpuri – Kishni and Karhal, will connect to this circuit. These two blocks spread over 676 hectare, including around 526 hectare of Saman bird sanctuary which is also a Ramsar site, a forest department official said.
