Saudi Arabia introduces new scheme for US, UK and Schengen citizens

Saudi Arabia has reopened the visa-on-arrival policy for the holders of valid visas for the US, UK and Schengen regions.

The citizens of any country who hold one of the three visas and who are travelling on one of the country’s national carriers – Saudi, Flynas or Flyadeal are now eligible to travel on 12 monthly tourism visas on their arrival in Saudi Arabia without having to apply beforehand.

Visitors holding a valid US, UK or Schengen visa must have used it at least once to enter the issuing country or region which will make the person qualify for the arrival.


Minister of Tourism for Saudi Arabia Ahmed Al-Khateeb has announced his signature on the Ministerial Degree, which is likely to make it quicker, easier and better accessible. The visitors to Saudi Arabia will now have an advantage.

Holders of a valid tourist or business visa from the UK, US or one of the Schengen Agreement countries can now apply for a visa arrival. However, the visa has to be used at least once to enter the granting visa. The Ministerial Decree does not require many would-be visitors to attend their country’s Embassy before entering Saudi Arabia, This will increase opportunities for potential travellers with a simplified view.

Saudi Arabia has had the reputation of changing its border security for a long time. In 2019 September international opened borders barely 6 months ago closing the border again before the pandemic. The country shifted its tourism strategy to opening just 11 destinations and creating 270 tourism packages. Saudi Arabia has recorded two years of growth in the travel and leisure industry. The country opened 11 destinations and created 270 tourism packages.

According to Al-Khateeb Saudi Arabia has emerged from the pandemic with a growing leisure and entertainment sector development. This includes some of the largest events in the world as well as compelling cultural tourism offers. Many small companies are now dedicated to growing the tourism industry.
