Saudi Arabia is just unstoppable in tourism

The tourism industry of Saudi Arabia, in terms of visitor numbers, remains bigger than the one is Dubai. The Kingdom had 7.8 million tourists in the first quarter of 2023while Dubai had 4.7 million.


In the past, when it came to arrival figures, Saudi Arabia had inched ahead of Dubai as the alluring emirate controls when it came to spending.


Compared to Dubai’s 16.8 million, in 2019, KSA had 17.5 million visitors with Saudi making a profit from a constant religious tourism market which in that year attracted 9.3 million people.


In 2022, Dubai was the top destination in the world when it comes to traveller spending by foreigners, raking in $29.42 billion, as per WTTC.


That is almost double Doha’s $16.79 billion in second place. Even though Saudi had around two million more visitors than Dubai, it Saudi Arabia did not make the top 10 list.

As per WTO index, among the well-known countries in terms of tourist arrivals form abroad in 2022, Saudi Arabia grabbed the 13th spot in the world. This highlighted a major development from its earlier ranking of 25th in 2019.


The Kingdom in 2022 welcomed 16.6 million international tourists for various travel purposes, as per WTO report. Moreover, in the international tourism revenue index, Saudi Arabia made impressive strides in 2022, climbing 16 spots to maintain its 11th spot.
