Scotland to set up multi million pound fund for tourism

Government of Scotland has set aside a multi-million pound fund to support tourism amid fears that political upheaval could deter visitors from visiting.

Citing an ‘uncertain time’ for the country tourism secretary Fiona Hyslop pledged to invest £1m to develop forest tourism across southern Scotland by 2021 to establish the region as an adventure tourism destination while promoting sustainable tourism.

Other areas to benefit include the Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund which will benefit to the tune of £3m through 2020-21 to enhance the visitor experience at more remote destinations.

Smaller-scale interventions include the installation of a free public Wi-fi system at ten sites across the North Coast 500 route and the restoration of a footbridge providing safe access to Lossiemouth East Beach.

Hyslop commented: “We are committed to working with the sector to support them through this uncertain time and ensure that they can continue to offer high-quality experiences for visitors while minimising the impact on the environment and the lives of those who live here all year round.”

Channel 4 and VisitScotland had also previously teamed up to attract viewers to hit the road in a bid to grow the sector.
