Scotland to meet with new heat wave this week?

According to the updates from the Met Office, UK is bracing for another heat wave. This one is likely to stay longer than July’s record-breaking spell.


It is expected that the highs in England and Wales will be up to 35 degrees Celsius. However, in Scotland the temperature is likely to be much cooler than 26 degrees Celsius which was forecasted on Friday and Saturday.

It is a cooler start of a week in Scotland. But as the week progresses temperature rise may be in store of the residents.

The Met Office specialists have urged people not to host barbecues in this dry and hot climatic conditions. This year the dry summer will remain for a longer phase as per their forecast.

Already reports of 15 homes being evacuated due to garden fire breaking out and spreading out of control in Essex have been assembled.

Heat wave in Scotland


At Floors Castles at the Borders temperature has shot up to 35.1 C for the first time ever in the July heat wave. It surpassed the previous record of 32.9 C at Greycook at the Borders.


In the UK when a location records daily maximum temperature consecutively for three days, its heat wave threshold is met. However, this threshold which is recorded at 25 degrees Celsius varies in the counties.


What has the Met Office to say about Scotland heat wave?

As per the reading by Met Office, large parts of Scotland will record temperature at the early 20s. However, the Highlands and islands are excluded from this temperature analysis.

In the first half of the week, places like Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Midlothian and Ayrshire will record temperature in the low 20s. in most paces the temperature will creep up to 25-26 degrees Celsius as the weekend comes closure.

In the next Sunday, the temperature will once again drop back down to the early 20s.

Met Office heatwave forecast

Although pleasant weather is expected across the country later in the week, however, parts of the north-west Scotland may be cloudier and gusts of wind may blow.


Meteorologist Tom Morgan said that for a vast majority across the UK, there will be lot of sunshine. Temperature will also rise with each passing day. Even Scotland and Ireland will enjoy fine, sunny and very warm climate towards the weekend.

From Thursday onwards, there will be rise in temperature from the 28C or 29C to the low to mid 30s. So, a moderately widespread heat wave is likely to develop across the UK this week. The temperature will likely reach its zenith on Friday or Saturday.


The Met Office authorities are confident that the temperature rise will not be as high it was in the month of July. But it will remain for a longer span of time in the low 30s which is significant nonetheless.

Large parts of the UK will experience this heat wave and undoubtedly it will tell upon the public health, nature and other conditions. Those with age related health issues and are vulnerable to heat related problems may experience some adverse effects due to heat wave.

The Met Office has urged people to follow the precautionary measures to avoid becoming overheated. Measures also include closing curtains and windows during the day and avoiding the midday sun.
