Looking high and low for that perfect, one-of-a-kind, meaningful gift can be difficult, especially among the holiday hustle and bustle. It isn’t always easy being a holiday hero, but Seattle makes it simple. Ranked No. 12 among U.S. cities that have the most small businesses, Seattle has more than 100,0000 for you to choose from on Shop Small Business Saturday, Nov. 24.

Seattle’s entrepreneurial spirit is the backbone of its culture, having launched businesses like Nordstrom, REI, Starbucks and Amazon that have changed the way we sell, shop and gather. It’s the very reason, Seattle also boasts the longest continuously running farmers market in the nation at Pike Place Market.

You can spend all day at getting lost in the holiday magic at Pike Place Market, which consists of eight buildings with 500 boutiques, artists and specialty food purveyors and enough culinary fan-fare to power you through your shopping list.

Visitors and residents alike also shop small at the semi-annual Urban Craft Uprising show at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. The 14th annual winter show features more than 150 of the area’s best makers around all gathered in one place Saturday, Dec. 1. Find all sorts of gifts for everyone on your list, with clothing, accessories, art, housewares and jewelry. And yes, there’s even gifts for the Fidos and Whiskers in your life.

If strolling amongst the lighted city streets and ducking curated boutiques is more your style, then check out Seattle’s bustling neighborhood shops. Find fine, handmade jewelry at Baleen. Please any audiophile with vintage or new vinyl from Sonic Boom or Easy Street Records. Shop uniquely curated fashion collections at Endless Knot, Alhambra or Silvae for women or Flora and Henri for children. If you have an outdoorsman, you’d be remiss if you didn’t stop in at the rugged outfitter Filson, which has been providing quality, durable goods since the Gold Rush.

Shopping for art lovers isn’t a challenge if you head to Columbia City where galleries abound. Stop in at the Columbia City Gallery, which is a cooperative for several emerging artists. Looking for the perfect book? Look no further than Ada’s Technical Books and Cafe for the STEM lover in your life, Peter Miller Books for the design hound, the Book Larder for the cook, or Elliott Bay Book Company for cherished local authors and national titles alike.

Once you’re done checking your list, don’t forget to treat yourself. Transport to Washington wine country by stepping into one of 30-plus downtown tasting rooms, like Browne Family Vineyards or Estates Wine Room; toast success with a cold pint at Pike Brewing Company; or warm yourself to the toes by sampling something stronger at Copperworks Distilling or Westland Distillery.

The sky is the limit in Seattle to find unique one-of-a-kind, meaningful gifts and there’s no better time to give big by shopping small.
