According to the reports revealed by LA police department, the theme parks in Southern California witness very low crime rates, in comparison to the other theme parks situated in the United States. The strong security measures taken by the theme park authorities of Knott’s Berry Farm, Universal Studios Hollywood and Disneyland, makes these places truly happy places on earth. The crimes that these parks mostly face are counterfeiting of money and tickets, shoplifting, pick pocketing and burglary.
After an analysis of over 3700 police reports for Southern California’s four famous theme parks, from 2014 to the first half of 2016, it has been known that the Disneyland face problem of counterfeit currency, while the Universal Studios Hollywood face crimes of shoplifting.
In 2015, the rate of violent crime inside the Disneyland Resort was only one crime against 1 million visitors, which is almost negligible in comparison to the crime rates in other neighbouring cities.
According to FBI, violent crime can be defined as robbery, rape, aggravated assault or homicide.
In 2015, the Universal Studios Hollywood also witnessed a low rate of violent crime rate, which was one incident against 1 million visitors of the theme park. The FBI crime statistics has revealed that in the neighbouring cities of LA, the violent crime rate is 6,348 incidents per 1 million people.
The spokeswoman for Disneyland, Suzi Brown has informed that they work in close collaboration with local law enforcement and are vigilant in protecting their guests while delivering a memorable guest experience.
According to the industry experts, as the theme parks in LA instruct all their employees to keep their eyes open to monitor any kind of suspicious behaviour; the rate of crime eventually gets down.
The theme parks also take the help of latest technology like two-way radio, close circuit cameras etc. to closely monitor the entire area inside the parks so that they can locate a crime and prevent it instantly. But the park authorities face immense challenge during the peak season with travellers flooding the entire park premises.
According to the security experts, as the parks take strong measures even after minor mischief, they eventually develop a reputation of holding a no-nonsense attitude, which stops several troublemakers to stage any attack or mischief inside the parks.
From 2014 to the first half of 2016, none of the four theme parks in LA witnessed any homicide, but there were reports of five rapes at the Universal Studios Hollywood, the Knott’s Berry Farm and the Six Flags Magic Mountain. Also, a total of 156 aggravated assaults were reported during the same period.
