On this Saturday, Surigao del Norte officials guaranteed the safety of the visitors in the province, with special emphasis in the famous Siargao Island, the surfing destination regardless of the continuing conflict between government security forces and Maute terror group in Marawi City. The Provincial officials also assured the same to all operators related to tourism establishments in the province, saying that Marawi is “far from Caraga region”.
To quote Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol F. Matugas told the Manila Bulletin yesterday, ‘Surigao del Norte is very much peaceful and peace order remains under control by all law enforcement agencies, especially by our military and police. Flow of business is running normal and arrivals of tourists in both foreign and domestic are still coming despite of the recent declaration of martial law in Mindanao by President Duterte.’
She also said, ‘We are on top of the situation with the support of the various peace and order councils and locals continue with their daily routine and all efforts are being made to maintain its peace and security.’
She further added that the Philippine Army has already declared the province of Surigao del Norte as “insurgency-free” since 2015.
In the meantime, yesterday the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) declared that the peace and order condition of the whole region in northeastern Mindanao is comparatively peaceful with no reported presence of terror groups whatsoever.
