Sikkim festivalThe Sikkim tourism department is keen on lending an international flavour to the Red Panda Winter Festival 2018 with probable participation from Britain, Australia, America, Nepal and Bhutan.

The festival will witness the first-ever performance by A. R. Rahman, the world famous composer and brand ambassador of Sikkim, in the Himalayan state on November 17.
The concert is probable to be organized at the Palzor Stadium here and is hoped to draw music lovers in their tens of thousands, making it the largest musical extravaganza to be organized by Sikkim ever.

“We are expecting about 70,000 people to come for the concert. We will only have to bear about 10 to 15 per cent of the cost of hosting the show. Rahman will be raising the money for the show on his own,” said Ugen Gyatso Bhutia, the Sikkim tourism and civil aviation minister.

In last year’s carnival, Rahman was the chief guest and visited the state for the second time this year. However, he did not perform during either of his two visits. He had, nevertheless, promised to arrange a show here sometime in the future.

Also, Bhutia mentioned that around the time of the festival, Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra will be visiting the state.
