Singapore embraced more than 1 million Indian tourists in 2016

SingaporeOver one million Indians had paid visit to Singapore last year making it their leading tourism locale in the region of South East Asia.


An aggregate of 1,009,931 Indian travellers had visited the City State in 2016 marking a rise from 623,391 in the year 2009, as per the data from Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index 2017. Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok were the second and third vacation destinations on the list.


The number of Indian tourists to Bangkok has risen to almost 795,972 last year from 657,532 in 2009.


But then, Indian arrivals to Kuala Lumpur dropped to 717,972 tourists in 2016 from 946,752 in 2009.


This Malaysian capital city was the leading city for Indian backpackers in the year 2009.


Eric F. Schneider who is the Senior Vice President of Mastercard Advisors said that India is rapidly emerging as a top origin nation especially for the destinations in Southeast Asia.
