Southwest has mentioned that flight 1250 that was travelling from San Francisco to Los Angeles was diverted on Wednesday afternoon.
This plane had landed absolutely safely at San Jose Mineta International Airport that is based at a distance of nearly 50 miles south of San Francisco. The airline has asserted that the passenger had been accused of smoking and was turned over to law enforcement.
The remaining 32 passengers had been placed on other aircraft to continue their trips.
Passengers reported smelling smoke and one of them even said that he had smelt marijuana. Later the flight was capable of completing its trip and landed eventually in Burbank.
Smoking on an airplane is illegal and could lead to criminal charges. Southwest later confirmed the customer in question was turned over to local authorities.
No one was injured and no flights were delayed at the airport because of the emergency landing, officials confirmed.
