Snowfall in higher altitudes in Kashmir with rain in plains

Higher altitudes of Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall. However, the plains received moderate rains in the early hours of Sunday.


The minimum temperature in the Gulmarg tourist resort dropped to minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, said the officials.


Gulmarg tourist resort, Machil, Sadhna Pass and Zojila Pass were among the places in the valley where more than three inches of snow was seen by 8.30 am on Sunday.


Drass in Ladakh union territory also witnessed snowfall, said the officials.


Major areas of Kashmir witnessed moderate rainfall all night with Srinagar city receiving the highest amount of 27 mm.


Baramulla (23 mm), Bandipora (22 mm), Kulgam and Budgam (21 mm each) and Pulwama (20 mm) also witnessed considerable rainfall till 8.30 am.


The heavy showers have brought in a plunge in night temperature across the valley, with Gulmarg becoming the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir at minus 3.6 degrees Celsius.


The minimum temperature at the rest of the weather stations in the valley remained above the freezing point. The meteorological department has predicted a five-day wet spell in Kashmir ending on November 10.
