Solomon Airlines has confirmed the extension of its regular international schedule suspension until Saturday 2 July 2022 to provide a level of certainty to passengers in light of the current international COVID-19 environment.

The airline has also confirmed an important extension to its credit policy for valid impacted tickets, allowing unused tickets to be redeemed for flights through to 31 December 2023.

The national carrier currently operates only Solomon Islands Government-approved international scheduled flights. The carriage of passengers on these flights is limited by quarantine accommodation in Honiara and each passenger must be approved to fly by the Solomon Islands Government. Until 3 Jul 2022, the only approved flights are Friday flights on the Brisbane-Honiara-Brisbane route. These services will continue and are now available for sale through to Friday 1 July 2022 departure. Solomon Airlines will re-introduce regular scheduled flights to other international destinations as soon as permitted.

“In the current environment, we have no choice but to limit our international scheduled services to our weekly service between Brisbane and Honiara only,” said CEO of Solomon Airlines Brett Gebers.

“Due to the global uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant of COVID-19 and the associated risk status, it is expected that the relevant Government authorities are unlikely to significantly change their approach to international border restrictions in the near future,” Mr. Gebers said.

Solomon Airlines also announced it has extended its existing ticket credit validity, allowing unused, valid tickets booked for travel to 2 July 2022, to be used towards a new airfare through to 31 December 2023.

“While we wait, we will continue to support our passengers with flexibility regarding allowable ticket changes, and ensure those affected have plenty of time to use their tickets” he added.

The airline is also continuing to operate Government approved international charter flights as well as regular scheduled services to 21 destinations in the Solomon Islands domestic network.
