For its future marketing initiations, Solvang started creating a map to draw tourists, with the City Council giving green signal to fill a vacant staff jobeventually and to keep active its advisory committee to some extent.
On Monday, the councilvoted to hire consultants as well; Stiletto Marketing to manage public relations and Islett Agency will be handling social media services for the coming two months at the minimum.
Nevertheless, plans to fill events and marketing manager job will be postponed later this month of the new city manager of Solvang, Randy Murphy, on Monday night the contract was approved.
For the marketing and events manager job, around 40 people had applied and a team had been nominated to carry on interviews, as per interim City Manager Brad Vidro.
After the wide-ranging discussion, in a series of votes, council members conferred to maintain the staff position developed last year to help guide marketing campaigns.
Elizabeth Orona, councilwoman, observed that few cities have a marketing manager, making Solvang exclusive.
For this position, it would be someone who is permanent and keen ondeveloping the success of the city, and they can quarterback and establish and supervise the efforts.
Orona said that it’s not shocking that they’re not great at this; it’s unsatisfactory, however, they need that anchor position in the organization structure.
But council members suggested that the hiring process for the position should be paused so that the new city manager can be in place.
