In an attempt to boost economy and the South African president recently announced that travellers will be allowed to all countries. They will soon open travel, tourism and hospitality sector and welcome tourists from all over the world according to President Cyril Ramaphosa as mentioned on Wednesday. Though the continent has the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases as per the recent number, the president is willing to attract tourism business.

Africa’s most advanced economy that recorded over 740,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 20,000 deaths, has seen infections rise since it eased lockdown restrictions in September to their lowest levels. Ramaphosa, in a recent interview mentioned that the normal trading hours of alcohol would be restored too, after sales were restricted on weekends in an effort to reduce pressure on hospitals due to alcohol-related accidents.

He further added that the countries will slowly open up for travelling and welcome tourists from far and wide by following the necessary health protocols and the presentation of a negative COVID-19 certificate.

They have also thought of implementing the rapid test and strict monitoring of travellers health condition on arrival will help in limiting infection spread through importation. It is expected that sch strict measures will help in maintaining good health conditions limit virus spread while assist businesses in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

The president however did not give further details, or a specific date for the reopening. South Africa opened its borders to some international travellers at the beginning of October after a six-month ban, but restricted entry from high-risk countries, with the latest list including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Brazil and India.
