South Australia welcomes record 2.5 m visitors who spent AUD 6.9 billion

South Australia witnessed record footfalls of 2.5 million visitors especially the interstate guests. The visitors spent U.S. dollars 2.2 billion in South Australia. The latest International and National Visitor Survey showed growth in domestic and international expenditure and visitation. International expenditure, is pegged at U.S. dollars 1.15 billion, which is a 4 per cent increase from last year.

 

 

 

China, the United Kingdom, the United States and New Zealand also recorded strong international growth. China’s expenditure rose 15 per cent to U.S. dollars 426 million.

 

 

 

Rodney Harrex, South Australian Tourism Commission, Chief Executive said: “The State Tourism Plan 2020 has helped build a strong and competitive tourism industry, as we work towards an U.S. dollars 8 billion visitor economy – it is vital that this momentum continues,”

 

 

Increased aviation activity and the World Routes 2019 in Adelaide will keep the growth momentum of tourism.  The figures show the hard work and passion of thousands of local tourism operators.

 

 

 

Minister Pisoni opines that attracting more tourists to experience the wonders of South Australia and the world-class events helps to grow their economy and create more local jobs.

 

 

 

Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, will host the 25th World Route Development Forum 21-24 September 2019 at the Adelaide Showground with 3,000 delegates expected to attend.
