South Korea saw a double-digit growth in May

Due to more Chinese and Japanese people visiting South Korea it resulted in a double-digit growth last month.


In May the number of foreign travelers to South Korea reached 1,485,684 , this was 20 percent from the same month of last year, as per  the Korea Tourism Organization.



In the same period Chinese tourists jumped 35.2 percent to 500,413 followed by Japanese travelers where the numbers soared to 26 percent to 286,273 in the month.


There was a 13.3 percent hike in the number of U.S. tourists to South Korea over the year to 95,815 last month.



According to the tourism agency  the Chinese travelers visited South Korea, while many Japanese in 20s who have an interest in the South Korean pop culture traveled to the country in the month during the Labor Day holiday in early May.



The number of South Korean people travelling abroad was 2,401,204 in May, this was  3 percent up from a year earlier.
