Southampton Airport Seeks Hero Nominations for Tree Planting Ceremony in Marlhill Copse

To mark National Tree Week (23^rd November – 1^st December), Southampton Airport is offering local people the chance to dedicate a newly-planted tree in Marlhill Copse to a loved one or community hero.

Whether it’s a tribute to a family member or an exemplary member of the community – anyone can be nominated to have a tree dedicated to them on the airport-owned land as part of the its contribution to help the Woodland Trust meet its goal of planting one million trees.

Commenting on the opportunity, Neil Garwood, Managing Director of Southampton Airport, said: “Our community is at the heart of everything we do, and that’s why we would like to give our neighbours the chance to make their own mark within the copse and help create a true community space.

“We have already started a programme of planting saplings in the copse and will be planting more over the winter months.  Additionally, more trees will be planted once the tree management works at the copse are conducted and concluded.”

After the successful nominations are drawn, a tribute board bearing the names of all those to whom the trees are dedicated will be installed at the woodland.

A special ceremony will be held early in 2020, and those who submit successful entries will be invited along to help plant the trees.
