Southeastern Europe’s top rated destination, Albania will ban heavy vehicles on major roads to and from tourist destinations during weekends starting from June 15 to Sept. 15.
The decision was made jointly by the Albanian Interior Ministry and the Infrastructure and Energy Ministry, said Damian Gjiknuri, head of the Infrastructure and Energy Ministry.
Gjiknuri announced the decision after a meeting with the Albanian International Road Carriers Association, the Maritime Port Directors and the Albanian Road Authority.
The decision aims to make traffic easier for tourists as the peak season for the industry is coming, especially in areas that see a large incursion of sightseers.
In the coming days, the tourism specialists will determine the traffic schedules that facilitate movements of tourists and meanwhile produce the least impact on local business activities.
