Southwest Airlines has revealed the 2023 awardees of the Herbert D. Kelleher and Rollin W. King, as well as the Southwest Airlines® Scholarships. These scholarships play a crucial role in nurturing students’ educational paths across the nation, empowering them to soar through the realms of education. As part of its commitment to these programs, Southwest® has dedicated $290,000 over four years to 17 recipients. Additionally, each student has been granted two round-trip tickets on Southwest, fostering connections with their loved ones throughout the year.

• Celebrating its 41st year, the Herbert D. Kelleher and Rollin W. King Scholarship is an internal scholarship honouring Southwest Airlines’ founders and namesakes. It provides financial assistance to dependents of Southwest Workers who want to pursue higher education.

• The Southwest Airlines Scholarship, launched in 2021, underscores a commitment to cultivating diversity within communities. Designed for external candidates nationwide, the scholarship emphasizes the importance of providing equal opportunities and making a positive impact on future generations.

Laurie Barnett, Vice President Corporate Reputation at Southwest Airlines expresses pride in extending scholarship support to 17 students this year, emphasizing Southwest Airlines’ commitment to prioritizing access to education and recognizing its profound impact on individual growth. She says, “We look forward to continuing these opportunities and encouraging students to apply for these scholarships in the years ahead as we do our part to inspire future generations to let their dreams soar.”

The 2023 scholars represent universities nationwide, including the University of Tennessee, Tuskegee University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Harvard College, and more. Many of the recipients are embarking on their college journeys, with aspirations for careers in aviation and pursuing degrees ranging from aerospace engineering to aviation business administration.

Funds for both scholarships are sourced from the Southwest Airlines Foundation, managed by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, and are available to students attending accredited vocational, community/junior college, or undergraduate institutions. Through the Southwest Airlines Foundation, Southwest actively contributes to programs and initiatives promoting positive change, with a focus on fairness, prosperity, and sustainability.
