The Spanish government confirmed that a total of 66.2 million foreign tourist visited Spain during the first nine months of 2018.
A communiqué was published by the government having data from two studies by the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE) about the arrival of foreign tourists and their spending.
For the year 2017 the number of tourists visiting Spain between January and Spain dis not change, there was an increase in tourists spending by 2.5 percent over the first nine months of the year.
There was a positive valuation of the data and it showed the stabilization of the number of visitors is accompanied by an important growth in tourist spending.
Adding number is a motivation to continue working even though it is tough to maintain the country’s position as a world tourism leader.
Among the 66.2 million visitors to Spain almost 15 million were from the United Kingdom, 9.43 million from France and 9.1 million from Germany.
There was a growth of 8.7 percent in visitor’s number from the United State and 5.3 percent increase in the number of Russians.
With 15.4 million visitors in the first nine months of the year the Catalan region was the most important tourist destination. This was followed by the Balearic Island with 12.2 million tourists and the Canary Islands with 10.05 million visitors.
During September a total of 8.9 million visited Spain which was more than 0.5 percent more than September . A total of 9.543 million euros (10.86 million U.S. dollars) this was 0.7 percent higher than in 2017 and the average visitor spending was 147 euros per person per day.
82 million tourists spent holiday in Spain in 2017 turning it the second most important destination in the world only after France.
