Spain tourism hit by European coronavirus measures

Published on : Tuesday, July 28, 2020

Britain along with other European countries has enforced new steps to restrict traveling to Spain, getting anxious regarding the spread of the virus. Following are some of the main restrictions and suggestions on holidaying in Spain:

BRITAIN – On late July 25, the government declared of imposing 14-day quarantine on all travelers coming from Spain. The move came into effect just hours later. Also, it advised against all but travel essential to Spain.

FRANCE – On July 24th, the government suggested its citizens not to travel to Catalonia. Though the border with Spain will remain open, but Prime Minister Jean Castex explained that he was talking with the Spanish government in decreasing traffic flows.

NORWAY – Norway declared 10-day quarantine on July 24th. This took effect the following day, for people arriving from Spain.

IRELAND – On July 22nd, the Irish government declared a “green list” of countries for which a 14-day quarantine was raised, however it did not include Spain whatsoever, so the quarantine requirement still stands for tourists coming from there.

BELGIUM – Under the latest measures of the government on July 24th, the entire Lleida province in Catalonia and Huesca province in Aragon are on red list where traveling is strictly prohibited and that require quarantine for travelers returning from there.

Also, Belgium has an orange list of regions, travelers from which are suggested to undergo a test along with self-quarantine. As of July 24 that includes Catalonia, Aragon, La Rioja, Estremadura, Navarra and the Basque country.

GERMANY – The government has suggested people not to travel to few areas designated high-risk in Spain, as of July 24th, but has not inflicted any ban or quarantine. The areas are part of Lleida province including the city of Lleida, and the city of Zaragoza.NETHERLANDS – The government has suggested its citizens on July 25th not to travel to the city of Lleida and adjoin sections except when absolutely essential. For the rest of Spain it says travelers need to be very much aware of risks related to health, but has not imposed restrictions.
