The Saffron Rose Festival to be held in Consuegra in the province of Toledo, Spain highlights the importance of saffron and the traditional culture of the Castile-La Mancha Region. This Festival will give a boost to Spain tourism by promoting the cultural essence of Castile-La Mancha through its gastronomy, crafts, history and traditions.
Held at the end of October, the event offers a highly varied programme, starting with the proclamation by Dulcinea and the Maids of Honour.
Especially outstanding during the celebrations are: the “Grinding of Peace and Love”, where a 16th-century windmill grinds wheat to make flour. The Saffron Rose harvesting competition, where participants have to separate the saffron from the flower in the least time possible, is worth participating. Another attractive event is the Folk Festival with groups from all over the Region.
Exhibitions, cultural activities and sporting competitions complete the programme. Saffron-producers are the main protagonists of this fiesta. This Festival has been held since 1963.
This year the Saffron Rose Fiesta will be held this weekend, i.e, Oct 27-28.
