Grab your favorite red shirt; it’s time to celebrate the Lunar New Year, also known as Spring Festival. Saying goodbye to the Tiger, we enter the year of the Rabbit on January 22, 2023. It is a grand celebration of festivals by the people of China across the world with much glam and pomp.

Streets and houses are adorned with red lanterns and scrolls, and people, especially elders of the family, give their children money in gold-inscribed red envelopes. Fireworks are a major attraction during Chinese New Year celebrations.

People cloak in red clothes on this day as they believe that the color attracts health, fortune, and good luck.

The annual Chinese New Year Fireworks (which will most likely happen on January 23) is a huge event, with thousands of people lining Victoria Harbour to watch the incredible spectacle.

To let both sides of the harbourfront get a good view, a fleet of barges park in the middle of Victoria Harbour, between Tsim Sha Tsui and Central, to release the fireworks.

All harbor traffic comes to a halt during this time, and the city’s most prominent towers on both sides of the harbor also take part in this amazing synchronized event.

Because the fireworks are so popular, you’ll want to get there early and get a good spot. The fireworks start at 8 pm, and there is no admission fee to any of the public viewing areas.

Traffic is very intense during this time, so it is strongly recommended to take the MTR and other modes of public transportation to get to Victoria Harbour and to avoid trying to cross the harbor at this time.

This is said to be one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the world.

To welcome the New Year, a fleet of pontoons and barges set up in the middle of victoria harbor launches the pyrotechnic wonder as the sky above the harbor explodes in bursts of shimmering color on a breathtaking show that lasts approximately 25 minutes

Fireworks are believed to scare away evil spirits, helping bring in all the good luck for the coming year. The New Year Fireworks are an intrinsic part of Chinese tradition and one of the city’s landmark events.

By far one of our favorite places to enjoy New Year fireworks displays is in the middle of Victoria Harbour aboard a Harbour Cruise. You get not only fantastic unobstructed ‘front seat’ views, but you also avoid the crowds while enjoying drinks and cocktails aboard without having to worry about where the next restroom is.
