Hong Kong reopened its borders for all globaltourists on May 1, this year. In a period of only one month, the amount of daily inbound international flights doubled to 38 from 19 in the month of April. Beforehand, only the citizens and residents of Hong Kong were permitted to enter the city.

New cases of corona infections were identified among foreign travelers. For the first time in January, ever since the start of the pandemic, Hong Kong chronicledthreefold numbers considering new casesof COVID-19. In June 2022, the number of new corona virus cases hassurpassed the 800 mark at the present.

As of Sunday, Hong Kong stated 106 new imported corona cases. This surge in the amount of new cases is related to the reopened borders and more than ever regularity of international air travel.

Hong Kong has also cut down the number of days of quarantine to seven for foreign arrivals.

Hong Kong has less than a month to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the city’s handover to China. The event is most likely to be attended by Xi Jinping, theChinese President.

In the midst of a surge in case numbers, Hong Kong is not willing to return to closing down everything since it previously triggered a huge economic loss during the two-year period. It was when the whole world was experiencing the pandemic woes.
