With spring arriving in the two Virginias, it’s time for the residents to welcome visitors who would drop in with the coming season.
In Mercer, McDowell and Tazewell counties, spring generally brings in a number of visitors who travel to the area for a ride in the popular Hatfield-McCoy and Spearhead trail systems.
Jamie Null, the director of the Mercer County Convention and Visitors Bureau said, “Spring is a good time to ride. It’s not hot and it’s not dusty. There are a lot of good trails to ride on.”
In Tazewell County, David Woodard, tourism and community development director, and A.J. Robinson, marketing director, are also hopeful about a successful tourism season in the spring.
There are also lots of popular events planned for residents and visitors alike.
Few events planned for the spring months include a Thaw Fest on April 21 at Painted Peak Brewing Company on Main Street in Tazewell; the annual arts festival at Southwest Virginia Community College from April 12-22; the Blessing of the Bikes May 2 in Burke’s Garden; the Great Richlands River Race on May 19; and the Primitive Mountain Man Rendezvous at Crab Orchard Museum May 25-26.
