 Saturday, March 30, 2019

There are over 11,000 cruise tourists arrived in Sri Lanka so far this year with the arrival of six cruise ships at the Colombo Port, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB).

According to the SLTPB, over the last two weeks alone, over 3,000 tourists from Europe, Australia and Thailand arrived in Sri Lanka on board two luxury liners.

The ships arrived from Singapore and Phuket. Sri Lanka’s Tourism Ministry has been aiming to attract cruise ships in order to boost the number of tourist arrivals.

Sri Lanka recorded a 29-percent growth in luxury cruise ships calling at the Port of Colombo last year, helping boost the tourism sector.

The cruise tourism has seen a substantial growth in Sri Lanka in recent years, with industry experts seeking government approval to build a cruise terminal building at the Colombo Port to attract more cruise liners.

Tourism in Sri Lanka has been one of the country’s leading sectors with a growing number of tourist arrivals in recent years.
