St. Patrick Day Parade 2022- Where it’s happening and where it isn’t?

St.Patrick’s Day Parade is a cornerstone of the Irish community across the world. It is a time when everyone is Irish and the people go green in celebration of the Irish culture. Drinks, music and good old fashioned Irish fun. Leprechauns, parades, military bands, dances and floats. But due to various circumstances the parades will be cancelled in many places. Here are some of the popular parades that will still happen and where they would be cancelled.

1. Dungravan, Ireland

Dungarvan hasn’t hosted St Patrick’s Day parade for the last two years due to COVID-19. And this year while they had planned to host the parade, lack of volunteers . The organisers said that it was “impossible” to collect funding for the parade in the short time frame since the COVID-19 restrictions were eased. Unlike in Waterford City the parade, in Dungarvan is organized by a voluntary committee. The organizers said that the volunteers who generally take part in the parade weren’t feeling confident enough to go into the parade at such short notice. Other regional towns , have also been cancelled their parades.

2. Ocean County, New Jersey, USA

In the Ocean County St. Patrick’s Day Parade, it is during this time that the green line is painted on the Boulevard in Seaside Heights. The official Facebook page of the parade and the city said that they were cancelling the parade due to the extreme weather conditions. The parade route was set, but expected severe weather literally rained on the parade.  However, parade has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 2. The St. Patrick’s Day parade will not will not be held for the third straight year as they canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.

3. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

After, 2 consecutive years of cancellations due to the pandemic, Philadelphia’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade returns on Sunday, for its 250th edition. The parades are organized by the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Observance Association. They are celebrating the 250 years of faith, family, friendship and heritage in this year’s parade. The 11:15 a.m. at 16th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard, running eastbound on Market Street through the Independence Mall area to Penn’s Landing, where it is scheduled to wrap up around 3 p.m.

4. St. Paul’s and Columbia Heights, Minnesota, USA

The beloved holiday tradition, which draws thousands of spectators to Minnesota’s capital city, will take place this year. Katie Martin, president of the St. Patrick’s Association, said that they are coming back in a really big way. The parade’s route will be reversed. It starts at noon on March 17 and the after-party — dubbed the Ballpark Hooley and sponsored by Guinness — begins at 12:30 p.m. The holiday can spark a revival of sorts, bringing throngs of people decked in green to the Twin Cities parades and pubs.

5. York City,Pennsylvania, USA

St. Patrick’s Day Parade being canceled for another year in York. Instead of it, UNParade will be organised at Central Market. The people will bring together food, entertainment and fun to celebrate all things Irish. COVID-19 health concerns and a lack of volunteers to manage the parade, has let to the cancellation of the parade. Family-friendly activities like Irish dancers, bagpipe performances, vendor specials, face painting, shamrock balloon hats, coloring pages and other crafts will be organized.

6. Charlotte, North Virginia, USA

80,000 spectators along Tryon Street in uptown each year were entertained by Charlotte St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Frank Hart’s  worsening Parkinson’s disease as the reason for ending the popular tradition. Linda Dyer Hart, Frank’s wife said that the parade grew so popular across the country and overseas that more than half the spectators in the end came from elsewhere. Dyer Hart said she will always remember the happiness the parade brought families, the diverse ages and backgrounds of the crowd.
