In 2020, Slovenian tourism will witness a 70% decline in overseas tourists. However, Slovenians are holidaying in the country in huge numbers. As tourist vouchers have been distributed by the state to help the sector, it will counterbalance the loss to some extent, so that the drop in general is to amount to around 50%.
To get the sector accommodated to a new reality from the coronavirus, Slovenian partners are working on a recovery plan, Slovenia’s Tourist Board (STO) announced.
The STO knows that people will always be traveling, yet not at all cost, but to “destinations which can guarantee a safe and at the same time pleasant experience”, STO director Maja Pak said in a release.
Therefore, the STO is working with the Economy Ministry, tourism industry representatives, product associations and destination managers together to organize a recovery plan for the tourism of Slovenia.
The document is to digitalize and optimize marketing as well as promotion to bring them in accordance with the new habits of the travelers and bring new criteria to review tourism success.
In March, the pandemic hit the country, the STO has introduced several campaigns, aiming on promoting green Slovenia, as a safe and responsible destination.
Virtuoso Travel Week, an online event promoting boutique and luxury tourism, recently, was attended by more than 4,000 tourist agents and destination managers from 96 countries.
Also, the STO is enhancing communication with foreign businesses with new projects.
