Storm Ana narrowly missed the UK as it was set to batter but headed towards the northeast after devastating France, Italy and Spain.
The storm had hit Western Europe, leaving 55,000 homes in France without power.
A lighthouse in Les Sables-d’Olonne in western France was hit by a wave as the storm reached the western coast of France.
After bringing torrential rain, strong winds and snow to several parts of Europe, storm Ana will move towards the northeast of Spain.
In western France near La Rochelle winds of more than 160 kilometres per hour were reported. The northern part of Europe is facing severe weather conditions.
It has been forecasted that winds around 90kph might hit Poland along with heavy snowfall in Finalnd.
UK has escaped Storm Ana at this point of time and is already reeling under freezing temperatures and hit by the biggest snowstorm in four years in the past few days.
The Met Office warned that the southern English channel might be hit leading to widespread disruption to ferry services and flights.
