A powerful storm and blizzard is expected to hit U.K. this weekend bringing with it rainfall and strong gusts. These weather conditions may cause widespread travel disruptions and wrecked holiday plans. The storm is expected to reach its peak in U.K. on Saturday afternoon and night.
Rain will spread from Northern Ireland to South West England, Wales and the western coast of Scotland on Friday night and finally conquer the rest of the U.K. on Saturday.
Significant snow and travel disruptions are expected farther north.
Tyler Roys, AccuWeather Meteorologist said that travel may become difficult on Saturday into Sunday morning. Intensified snowfall and storm may force officials to close roads through the hills.
The storm may deliver rain and gusty winds and lead to slippery roads. Winds ranging 40 to 50 mph (65-80 km/h) can lead to travel delays on Saturday evening. Stronger winds pose higher travel disruption. Residents from South West England to northern England and southern Scotland will face power outages and travel disruptions.
There can be gusts between 60 and 70 mph (95 and 115 km/h) near the coast from Wales and western England on Saturday afternoon and evening. This may intensify to 80 mph (130 km/h) along the coast of Wales.
The roaring winds may trigger localized flash flooding in urban areas across the western U.K. including Belfast. The weekend will end on a calmer note.
Another bout of rain and wind is anticipated across the British Isles around Tuesday of next week.
