Strong figures of the summer months to perk up Adriatic economies

All along the eastern Adriatic coast, for the summer months, countries are showing strong tourism figures as their tourism has finally rebound in spite of rising cases in coronavirus.

This follows a year in which Croatia and Montenegro economies got completely impaired by the effect of the pandemic and spring lockdowns in 2020.

Just after a year, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Slovenia are reporting that visitor numbers are almost close to the levels of pre-pandemic 2019, aiding their economies to revive.

For August 2021, Croatian National Tourism Board unveiled the figures in a statement at the beginning of September where they have put visitor numbers at 4.3mn. This is 86% of the level in August 2019, as the overnights were equal to 93% of pre-crisis levels. Also, the figure represented a 59% rise compared to August 2020, when tourism fell down in the country.

To quote Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac, “We can be satisfied with the results in the first eight months … the tourist year continues, and this is best evidenced by the fact that at this time there are about 680,000 tourists in Croatia, which is at the level of the number of tourists we had at this time in 2019. This is a great announcement for September, in which we want to continue at the same pace to further boost economic development and ensure tourism has an even better starting position over the next year.”
