Sudan is regarded time and again as a place of war, but the country also has exclusive attractions, from the flowing together of the Blue and White Nile rivers, to olden temples and pyramids.
However, now, Sudan is aiming to tap its immense tourism potential.
Dr. Babiker Mohammed, from Sudan’s Ministry of tourism said that they have a calculated plan for 5 years, by which they would develop their tourist destinations to a commendable standard with excellent facilities for visiting tourists.
Sudan boasts of an opulent history of civilizations and remnants, together with three times the number of pyramids that Egypt has.
However, Dr. Mohammed opined that Sudan has suffered long from an adverse image.
He said that they are working very hard to uphold Sudan at the international level.
Dr. Mohammed said that many people know of Sudan as a place of skirmishes, especially with the Darfur matter. But if Sudan is carefully considered, it is more than one million square miles and the tourist spots are thousands of kilometers away from the sites of battles.
Among other places of interest, Sudan is the location of Meroë, the ancient capital of the Kushite Kingdom, where hundreds of Nubian pyramids can be found.
More and more visitors now are appreciating the region’s prospective and resources.
The first of these enormous pyramids in Meroë was constructed by King Arkamani 1 more than 2,200 years ago.
