As part of a new Sustainable Sunshine Coast campaign, the Sunshine Coast Tourism is giving confidence to the tourism providers to save water and accommodate and provide greener modes of transportation.
To quote Paul Kamon, SCT executive director, “The aim is to assist business, visitors and residents [to] take simple actions that reduce our ecological footprint and raise awareness by profiling tourism operation leaders.”
According to the press release, Sustainable Sunshine Coast has its origins in a 10 Year Sunshine Coast Destination Development Plan, which highlighted continuing issue related to water shortage and a rise in bike visitors to the Coast.
The organization is working with Transportation Choices (TraC) to offer resources as well as control to tourism providers.
At local visitor centers, free print materials are available, as SCT will be profiling businesses that are “leading local sustainable operations.”
Also, an online guarantee and short survey are available so SCT can collect feedback, and support to local businesses “to tackle water conservation and greener transportation.”
Also, the initiative was presented to the Town of Gibsons, District of Sechelt and Sunshine Coast Regional District.
