Taiwan coast hit by magnitude 6.1 earthquake

tawianTaiwan’s east coast was hit by a strong and shallow earthquake onSunday night with no immediate reports of any injuries or damage. It was noted that shallow quakes caused more damage than deeper ones.

 

The magnitude 6.1 quake’s epicenter was 9 miles northeast of the city of Hualien and at a depth of 4.9 miles as per the U.S Geological Survey.

 

 
There were seven tremors with strongest recorded at magnitude of 5.8 and a depth of 10 miles as per the Central News Agency.

 

 

The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude-6.1 quake’s epicenter was 9 miles northeast of the city of Hualien, at a depth of just 4.9 miles. Shallow quakes tend to cause more damage than deeper ones.

 

 
It is often found that Earthquake rattle Taiwan but it is mostly minor with less damage.
But in 1999 a magnitude 7.6 quake in central Taiwan had killed more than 2,300 people.

 

 

A shallow earthquake in southern Taiwan killed at least two dozen people in 2016.
