Tamil Nadu State Tourism Awards in Chennai

This week, the winners from Tiruchi, Thanjavur and Pudukottai have made a name for the province in the Tamil Nadu State Tourism Awards bestowed by the Tourism Department in Chennai.


The awards event was inaugurated on September 27 on World Tourism Day by M. Mathiventhan, the Minister of Tourism in Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai.


B. Chandra Mohan, the Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture and Religious Endowments Department, Sandeep Nanduri, the Director of Tourism and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, and S. R. Gandhi, the Director of the Arts and Culture Department of Tamil Nadu, took part in the event.


Tiruchi-based travel agency Cholan Tours bagged the gold award in the category of inbound and domestic tour operator. The city’s KMS Hakkim Kalyana Biryani Restaurant was named the best eating place concerning traditional food.


In the hospitality division, Chidambara Vilas in Tirumayam, Pudukottai district bagged the best heritage hotel award, and Indian Residency in Srirangam became the best home-stay facility. Hotel Tamil Nadu in Thanjavur took home the TTDC Star performer award in the categoryof budget hotel.


Thanjavur’s Brihadeeswara Temple became the cleanest tourist destination. In the individual awards, Selvam Maruthamuthu of Thanjavur received a trophy for the best tourist guide.


New safety guidelines were also released for organizers of adventure tours, caravan travel and parks, camping, bed and breakfast and home-stay facilities at the event in Chennai.
