Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) deputy director (buffer) G Guruprasad has warned guides, tourists and Gypsy drivers about tourism to be closed if they are found crowding animals after sighting them.
Guruprasad said that there have been complaints that after sighting tigers, leopards or sloth bears, guides call their colleagues on phone, and vehicles rush to the spot speedily, endangering wild animals. The vehicles later mob the animals to take photographs.
Guruprasadsaid, “We have already banned mobiles during safari. Yet, guides and drivers are carrying them. If the guides fail to discipline themselves, we will be forced to ban tourism for at least one year.”
There are 13 entry gates in TATR buffer. A tourism prohibitionwould affect the management a lotand also adversely affect localites who are dependent on tourism.
