Enfidha-Hammamet Airport in Tunisia, operated by TAV Airports, a member of Groupe ADP, has achieved the fourth level, “Transformation,” in the prestigious ACI Europe Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program, marking a significant step in the fight against climate change. Additionally, Antalya, Izmir, and Ankara airports have attained Level 3+ “carbon-neutral” status. TAV Airports is committed to making all its airports carbon-neutral by 2030 and aims for net-zero emissions by 2050.
The ACA program has certified a total of 564 airports across 86 countries. During the 2022-2023 period, airports accredited by ACA achieved a remarkable reduction of 1,232,196 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions (-17.7%) for Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
TAV Airports COO Kürşad Koçak, stated, “From the beginning, we have been working to minimize the environmental impact of our operations while creating the highest benefit for our stakeholders. Ten years ago, Ankara Esenboğa became Türkiye’s first carbon-neutral airport. Today, four of the airports in our portfolio have reached this level. A total of 11 of our airports are included in the ACA program. We are progressing towards our net-zero goal by increasing the use of renewable resources and energy efficiency. We will continue to work in cooperation with our stakeholders for the transformation of the aviation sector.”
TAV Airports has been transparently reporting its environmental performance since 2010. Notably, Izmir Adnan Menderes and Medina airports, operated by TAV Airports, hold the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Medina Airport is distinguished as the first commercial airport in the Middle East and North Africa region to receive LEED Gold certification. Furthermore, the new terminal buildings for the Antalya Airport capacity development project also aim to achieve LEED Gold certification. The new terminal of Almaty Airport, which welcomed its first flight at the beginning of June, will be the first airport in Central Asia to receive EDGE Advanced (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification.
