On Thursday, the Telangana state government has sanctioned Rs. 110 crore to expand Ranganayakasagar into a top-notch tourism hotspot, Finance Minister T Harish Rao said.
Komaticheruvu, on the southern part of Siddipet, has by now turned into an outstanding tourism centre and Ranganayakasagar would be developed into a popular tourism spot as well, Rao said.
The minister’s recent visit to Siddipet, Chief Minister, K. Chandrashekhar Rao visited Ranganayakasagar. He declared that it would be turned into a major tourism spot.
The Minister said that the guest house set up on Pallagutta in the middle of Ranganayakasagar besides road connectivity has been attracting several tourists. Previously in undivided Andhra Pradesh, water bodies used to be filled by rain only and when lakes had water, farmers took up agriculture.
To quote Harish Rao, “The situation has now changed completely in the district since all the lakes are brimming with water after works were taken up under Mission Kakatiya scheme. The three TMC capacity Ranganayakasagar was filled with Godavari water through the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme.”
Also, the same Kaleshwaram water was used to fill up additional district lakes to meet the requirements of irrigation and greenery can now be seen in agricultural lands all over the district, he said. This place is not only meeting the requirements of irrigation but also attracting tourists on a massive scale, he added.
