The Union Government has initiated the ‘Heal In India’ campaign to market India’s medical services and infrastructure abroad, with ambitions to standardise processes and treatment packages for foreign citizens, in order to increase MVT size to 13 billion by 2026.

With its world-class hospital infrastructure, highly sophisticated medical technology, expert skills, compliance with international quality standards, and lower costs as compared to many other nations, India is a leader in health care. With a medical value travel (MVT) of USD 5-6 billion and 500000 foreign patients per year, India is one of the world’s leading destinations for overseas patients seeking sophisticated treatment, ANI news agency cites.

To promote the Medical Value Travel in India, Telehealth has the potential to transform the Indian healthcare business. Telemedicine has altered the conventional method of patient consultation with doctors. People with no geographic limitations may interact with healthcare providers, making it a convenient way to get medical treatment.

During the Covid pandemic, telemedicine consultations increased from fewer than 1% of primary care visits to 43.5% in April 2020. Following the crisis, the present trajectory of virtual care has developed a new form of medical care. It has reduced the frequency of hospital-acquired illnesses by up to 80%, making it the safest style of patient care.

ANI news agency quoted Dr Harinder Singh Sidhu, Sr.VP of Corporate Development, Apollo Group, as saying, “Being one of the global pioneers of telemedicine, Apollo serves both National and International patients by enhancing the accessibility of quality healthcare. Many international patients benefited from Telehealth in managing disease when international flights were restricted during Covid times. Further, Apollo TeleHealth specializes in integrated healthcare delivery to provide services such as TeleConsultations, TeleRadiology, Tele Cardiology, Tele Condition Management, and Tele-ICU services, among others.”

Telehealth refers to the remote delivery of healthcare and health-related information services by electronic means such as video calls, email, chat, or other electronic means. With previous arrangements, the Patient and Doctor Team can speak face-to-face in real-time via video conversations.

This Digital Healthcare paradigm can assist patients sitting in their homes, miles away from doctors and hospitals. It has the potential to provide the rapid delivery of high-quality healthcare while decreasing avoidable health risks and removing traditional obstacles to care.

The length of hospital stays for patients is getting more shorter as medical technology advances, in order to cut healthcare expenses. For example, hospital stays for coronary artery bypass grafts averaged nine days 13-14 years ago, but five days in 2023. Telemonitoring may be useful in monitoring patients throughout longer postoperative periods. With the use of Telemonitoring, a doctor team may control the vital signs of a patient’s condition, which can monitor the patient’s condition post-discharge from the hospital, modifying the medicine as per the patient’s vitals in aftercare, making it feasible and efficient method in healthcare model.

TeleHealth alleviates the strain on healthcare resources and personnel. Telehealth services aid doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers substantially. Nowadays, telemedicine enables doctors and healthcare professionals to give consultations and diagnostic services across geographic boundaries, expanding their worldwide reach.

According to Dr Rahul Bhargava, Director of Bone marrow transplant FMRI, “There is a significant gap in the world which exists for optimal health care delivery leading to disparity in the outcome and robbing many from the basic tenet of a right of living. This gap ideally will not exist if health education and resources are uniform. Still, life is less than ideal, so bridging the gap is possible through telemedicine and telepathology.”

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s telemedicine division collaborated with CDAC (the Center for the Development of Advanced Computing) to establish the eSanjeevani OPD portal. In India, the national telemedicine programme was an instant success, servicing over 100 million patients. With approximately 200,000 providers, 15,000 hubs, and 115,000 functioning spokes, this is the world’s most complete public telemedicine system implementation.

Privacy and customer health information protection concerns may limit the adoption of Telehealth. Personal records must not only be preserved, but they must also be safe from exploitation or misuse of electronic transmission of personal health information by appropriate privacy regulations and diligent monitoring.

People travel long distances for efficient, high-quality medical care in Medical Value Travel. Consequently, the use of Telehealth in the medical tourism sector offers to bridge distances in order to provide a more customised service, and it provides a powerful platform for the Medical Value Travel industry by transforming it into an efficient Health care System.

The simplicity of online payment, including international payment method for overseas patients, is today’s key concern for establishing and integrating home telehealth in the present health system. An effective telemedicine site for overseas patients, like National Telemedicine, may make significant improvements and increase the MVT.

Co-founder of International Healthcare consulting Company- Vaidam.com (Vaidam Health) Pankaj Chandna says, “Vaidam Health connects with many domestic and International patients over telecall daily basis. Patients tele-consult the desired Doctor with the assistance of the Vaidam health team, giving patients a better choice regarding their healthcare needs. With more than 100000+ patients from 125+ countries in the last eight years, Vaidam Health has provided the best healthcare access to the world.”
