The governor of Tennessee, Bill Lee recently announced that most state parks in the region are set to open once again after remaining closed for many days due to COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions. The reopening is set to commence this Friday. However, all parks will only be subjected to day use at present.

Governor Lee mentioned that the decision comes as the number of coronavirus cases has slowly started to flatten in Tennessee. Currently, the U.S. reports more recoveries that active cases.

Jim Bryson, Deputy Commissioner, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation said in a press statement that state parks are eager to serve the visitors once again. He also urged Tennesseans to continue to practice social distancing when visiting parks. He informed that policies designed to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease have already been implemented. He also shared that constant monitoring of all aspects with regard to coronavirus will continue to ensure safety among visitors and the staff.

All citizens have been asked to maintain six feet of distance between themselves and other visitors in order to abide by social distancing rules. People are advised to visit parks that are only a short distance from their residences. Authorities have also mentioned that it is better to visit parks earlier in the day so that plans can be adjusted if any park crowded. Park authorities have permission to limit access to certain parks or areas if capacity is reached.

Visitors have also been asked to carry their own snacks, water and hand sanitizer. Usage of masks and wearing it around other people have also been advised. All guests should also carry their trash with themselves or dispose it in appropriate containers to help keep parks litter-free and staff space clean.

Everyone has also been requested to plan ahead as selected areas will be reopening and many State Parks buildings will remain closed. Most bathrooms will also remain closed or may be available with limited access. Some restrooms might be opened but majority will be shut. Every resident has been asked to stay back at home and avoid visiting parks if they are sick or do not feel well.
