In order to attract more Middle Eastern tourists to Thailand, tourism officials visited Saudi Arabia on May 15-16 in a roadshow. The Tourism Authority of Thailand signed a memorandum of cooperation with Almosafer, which is the biggest OTA in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

The TAT also inkedaMoC with Saudia, which is Saudi Arabia’s flag carrier, for boosting a global campaign along with luxury and wellness products. At the roadshow, Thai operators received around 128 business appointments overall, which is estimated to create1 billion baht this year. Thailand is also planning to set up halal food centers in every province for boosting halal tourism.

TAT set a goal in March to attract 200,000-500,000 Middle Eastern tourists to Thailand in 2022. Thailand is especially aiming to lure Middle Eastern tourists for its medical and wellness tourism market. Last week, TAT brought 24 operators to the Arabian Travel Market 2022 at Dubai World Trade Center, in a hope to propel family and medical tourism.

Thailand’s tourism and sports minister said that Thailand needs to promote the Saudi market to increase travel demand, which is expected toreach its peak in July and August.

Thailand and Saudi Arabia resumed their direct flights with each other in February after long times of unfavorable relations. When the first flight of Saudi tourists landed in Bangkok, the Tourism Authority of Thailand welcomed them at Suvarnabhumi Airport with traditional performances and a water salute.
