Thailand plans to reopen tourist areas

The government of Thailand has said that they’re pressing ahead with proposals to waive the quarantine rule for vaccinated visitors to Bangkok and other 5 well-known tourist destinations from October 2021, that’s currently mandatory in an effort to boost up the battered tourism industry of the country.

Dr. Traisulee Traisoranakul from the CCSA have mentioned the new steps that will give hassle-free access to the famous tourist locations like Pattaya, Phang Nga, Koh Samui, Krabi and Bangkok from October 1st, 2021.

Also, officials of government and Phuket tourism ascertain that they are gearing up to open up to travelers who are vaccinated in 7 weeks, in a pilot ‘sandbox’ scheme. The positive moves forward come at the same time local officials declared quarantine period of 14 days for international visitors, starting May 14th, to change the rapid antigen test. The quarantine requirement would be for arrivals who didn’t get fully vaccinated or could provide a negative PCR Covid test within the past 72 hours.

To the new re-opening policy of Thailand, ‘quarantine-free’ is the key change but it remains to be seen what paperwork or current restrictions may stay the same, nothing has been declared so far. The questions of who will visit or what is left open for them to enjoy when they arrive, is still all up in the air.

In the meantime, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the Tourism and Sports Minister, said once again this week that Thailand would have to come as a zero new infection island before any quarantine-free re-opening occurs, adding to the earlier provision that 70% of the population of the island will have to get vaccinated as well. Only 22% of Phuket’s population, as of today, has been vaccinated but a new round of registrations is happening in the next week.
