Thais keen on getting free vaccines for COVID as part of tour packages to the United States should first get in touch with the Foreign Ministry before paying as not all states provide the service, as per the Foreign Ministry.

On Tuesday, Tanee Sangrat, the spokesman, explained that before finalizing the decisions, buyers should confirm the state regulations where they plan to visit as the situation is still not fine.

People aged 16 years and above, who live in or have entered the US legally can get Covid vaccination for free of charge. However, the standard principle and procedures can be different in every state.

He said, for instance, vaccine recipients should have permanent residences or jobs in some states. For others, tourists may be able to get vaccinated by producing their passports.

Thailand tour companies may have been making the most of this opportunity to draw tourists keen on getting vaccinated to buy their tour packages, particularly to the states where temporary visa travelers are still allowed to get free vaccine shots.

Many US states, as per Mr. Tanee, have taken measures to stop vaccine tourism. The Florida governor and Alabama health department of late said in interviews in the media that vaccines would only be given to people with permanent residencies.

There are indications that the criteria for vaccine distribution can be quickly altered.
