So, what the chief technology officer is at present up to at a tourism board? The founder and CEO of Skift, Rafat Ali, started off his Skift Global Forum session with the chief technology officer of Saudi Tourism Authority, Choon Yang Quek, with the above-mentioned million-dollar question.

Getting shifted from Singapore Tourism Board, where he worked in the same position, Quek stated that being a new destination, Saudi signifies a lot of possibilities, particularly at a time when tourism’s future is being recognized at present from a purely digital first or digital-only vision.

And then lies in convincing the world that this is the new Saudi along with educating the people that Saudi is in a mode of alteration and that it needs to open to the world.

Not like it needed to be said, however Quek did highlight that Saudi has immense ambitions. A 100 million-visitor target per month by 2030 for a country that lately opened tourism visas is nothing short of ambition.

Quek said that Saudi Arabia is hardly scratching the surface, even as he mentioned that the kingdom is gaining a lot of knowledge about other countries of the world as the influx of visitors to the country continues.

Reiterating the commitment of Saudi to not just break through the environmental impact but to make the environment better as well, Quek mentioned that the constructions at Neom and Red Sea would remain secure ecologically.
