The Department of Tourism J&K celebrated World Environment Day for conserving the delicate ecosystem and environment at the tourist destinations for safe and responsible tourism.
The main feature of these events was the active participation of stakeholders i.e. hoteliers, tour operators and service providers who joined hands in the cleanliness drives, awareness programmes and other related activities.
The main functions in this regard were held at Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, Chinar Bagh and Zabarwan Park in Srinagar, Yousmarg and Doodpathri and Ahrabal.
At Pahalgam, Director, Tourism, Kashmir, Dr. G N Itoo and MD, JK Cable Car Corporation, Majid Khalil Drabu carried on the cleanliness drive at Aru road opposite Deer Park. They also launched the plantation drive at the tourist destination.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Tourism said that the Department with the assistance of tourism stakeholders is on a mission to protect the fragile ecology at tourist destinations, observing eco friendly norms and conducting responsible tourism. Protecting the fragile ecology of tourist destinations is important for protecting the livelihood of service providers as these are green gifts for our future generations.
Dr. Itoo urged allll visitors, locals visiting this spot to makes sure that no garbage of any kind especially plastics are thrown on the pastures of this beautiful spot. At Gulmarg, a sanitation drive was carried along with a plantation drive and bicycle ride at the tourist destination.
The event was attended by Joint Director, Tourism, Kashmir, Tabassum Kamili, CEO, GDA, Inam ul Haq Siddiqui, SDM, Gulmarg, representatives of Hoteliers and other service providers. At Sonamarg, a huge cleanliness drive was held in the meadows of Sonamarg.
